The European Union has set a record for the import of Russian LNG

In 2025, the European Union (EU) updated the record for purchases of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG), despite official statements about its intention to abandon it. This was announced on September 19 by Irish journalist Brian McDonald on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

"The EU declares its intention to abandon Russian gas, but at the same time updates the record for the import of Russian LNG. The flows continue to flow despite the closure of the Nord Stream pipeline," McDonald said.
