Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the position of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on the participation of Israeli athletes in competitions, said on September 18 that Russia opposes the politicization of sports.

"We are against the politicization of sports. The situation with our Olympians and the ROC needs to be brought into line," Peskov said in an interview with Match TV.

Earlier in the day, the IOC explained its decision not to suspend athletes from Israel by saying that they peacefully coexist with competitors from Palestine.
