The Russian car market has risen to the second place in the European championship

By the end of August, the Russian car market, having shown the maximum result in 2025, rose to second place in the European championship. This was reported on September 18 by the analytical agency Autostat, having studied the data of the GlobalData consulting company, which was published by the Just Auto portal.

If by the end of June the Russian car market was in the sixth position in Europe in terms of sales of new passenger cars, then in July it entered the top three, and in August it became the second with a result of 122.2 thousand cars sold (-17.6% compared to August 2024).

In terms of car market volume in August, Russia was second only to Germany, which produced 207.2 thousand units in August (+5% year-on-year). France took the third place with 87.9 thousand units (+2.2%). Next are the United Kingdom (82.9 thousand units; -2%), Italy (67.3 thousand units; -2.7%) and Spain (61.3 thousand units; +17.2%).

Strong move: the size of the scrap collection will grow to 10 million rubles

For some models more powerful than 160 hp, importers will pay almost a thousand times more

Earlier in the day, car dealers said that if a resolution is passed to review the mechanism for calculating scrap collection, the increase in car prices will affect the vast majority of brands, since cars with engines of less than 160 hp are an insignificant proportion of alternative imports.

According to Izvestia's calculations, the maximum amount of the estimated new recycling rates for passenger cars older than three years with an engine capacity of more than 3.5 liters and a capacity of more than 500 hp will exceed 10 million rubles.
