The psychiatrist-narcologist told about the danger of a new drug
Klephedrone is a synthetic psychostimulant from the group of cathinones, chemically close to mephedrone, Ruslan Isaev, a psychiatrist and narcologist, president of the Independent Narcological Guild, told Izvestia.
— The mechanism of action is to block the reuptake of the main neurotransmitters — dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin. Due to this, there is a pronounced stimulant effect: a decrease in fatigue, hunger and thirst, and insomnia. The effect occurs about 15-20 minutes after ingestion and lasts on average from 2 to 6 hours. However, soon after the end of the action, there is a strong desire to repeat the technique, which quickly forms a mental dependence, the expert warns.
The danger of the substance is associated with its high neurotoxicity and the rapid development of severe consequences.: severe exhaustion of the body due to lack of sleep and nutrition; anxiety, irritability, aggression, depression; paranoia, hallucinations, suicidal thoughts; severe withdrawal with insomnia, tremor, nausea, headache; risk of severe psychosis, cardiovascular complications, seizures.
Dependence on 4-Chloromethacathinone develops very quickly, and the toxicity of the substance makes it especially dangerous even with single doses. Therefore, treatment for clephedrone is carried out only in conditions of drug treatment.
Earlier it was reported that a truck with 300 kg of drugs was detained in the Moscow region, among which clephedrone was found. The shipment came from Moldova under the guise of a cargo of apples.
