Dentist talked about the dangers of home teeth whitening methods

Dental treatment, especially teeth whitening, is an expensive procedure, but it is more convincing in action than trying to make a snow—white smile at home. About the dangers of such methods on September 17, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by Polina Soldatkina, dentist-therapist at SM-Dentistry.

According to the expert, people use bleaching strips and ready-made gels to whiten their teeth. Despite the availability of the product, it is difficult to guarantee a good composition. Choosing a low-quality gel is fraught with burning gums, uneven color and increased sensitivity of teeth.

"The next popular method is mouth guard kits without the participation of a doctor. The problem is that when used independently, the mouth guard often does not fit tightly. <...> Without choosing the concentration and time of wearing, it is easy to "whiten" teeth, get stable sensitivity and spots on teeth," explained Soldatkina.

Patients also often use mouthwashers and other products with low doses of peroxide, which can create a short-term effect of white teeth. However, according to the doctor, dry mouth appears after such mouthwashes.
