- The BBC learned about the possible ingestion of meldonium into the body of Mudrik in the Ukrainian national team
The banned drug meldonium could have entered the body of a football player, Chelsea midfielder Mikhail Mudrik, when he was in the national team of Ukraine. This was announced on September 16 by the BBC Broadcasting Corporation.
"As the BBC has learned, Mudrik, while in the Ukrainian national team, was in contact with the cardiovascular drug meldonium," the publication says.
It is noted that the use of the drug can have a positive effect on the heart and lead to increased endurance. Meldonium has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) since 2016.
In December 2024, Mudrik failed a doping test. It was clarified that after the 23-year-old passed the A-sample for the presence of a prohibited substance, which turned out to be positive, he was threatened with disqualification for four years if the second doping test failed.
