The Cygnus XL spacecraft with cargo for the ISS has an engine failure.
The American Cygnus XL space cargo ship, which was supposed to deliver 4.5 tons of cargo to the International Space Station (ISS), had an engine failure. This was stated on the NASA website on Tuesday, September 16.
"Early on Tuesday morning, the Cygnus XL main engine stopped earlier than planned after two power—ups necessary to boost the spacecraft's orbit to rendezvous with the space station," the publication notes.
No problems were found with other systems.
Initially, the spacecraft was supposed to arrive at the space station on Wednesday, September 17, but now the date has changed. A new ISS docking plan has been developed, according to which NASA astronaut Johnny Kim will use a robotic arm to dock the Cygnus XL to the node of the Unity module.
It is planned that the spacecraft will stay at the station until March 2026.
Earlier, on September 14, NASA announced the launch of Cygnus XL. The Falcon 9 launch vehicle of the American company SpaceX with a cargo ship launched from the spaceport in Florida. The main mission of Cygnus XL is to deliver supplies to the space station.
