Israel's decision to take military action in Qatar was made internally, without the participation of the White House, so the country bears full responsibility for it independently. This was stated on September 15 by Prime Minister of the Jewish state Benjamin Netanyahu during a press conference with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"I have repeatedly stated that Israel's decision to act against the Hamas terrorist leadership in Qatar was a completely independent Israeli decision. This decision was made by me and our top security forces," he is quoted as saying on the White House website.

He added that Israel takes full responsibility for the decision, based on the fact that terrorists should not be given safe haven.

"There can be no refuge for those who planned the worst massacre of the Jewish people since the Holocaust. That's why we did it on our own, period," the politician said.

On Tuesday, September 16, Netanyahu added that US President Donald Trump had invited him to meet in two weeks at the White House.

"We spoke [with Trump] several times after the [Doha] strike, including yesterday. He invited me to the White House. The meeting will take place in two weeks on Monday," Netanyahu said at a press conference.

He also said that negotiations on an Israeli strike on Doha were "good," the Haaretz newspaper adds. The politician added that he had never considered Qatar to be pro-Israeli or at least neutral to the Hamas political movement, and therefore Doha could be used as a mediator in negotiations for some time. Therefore, the Israeli operation was absolutely justified.

Trump said on September 15 that he was unaware of Israel's plans to strike Qatar. The American leader noted that Prime Minister Netanyahu had not discussed the Doha attack with him. At the same time, the US president ruled out the possibility of new strikes by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on the territory of Qatar.

A Hamas negotiating delegation that arrived in the Qatari capital of Doha to discuss a plan proposed by the United States for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip was attacked on September 9. On the same day, White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt announced attempts by US President Donald Trump to warn Qatar about the impending strikes, which were undertaken too late. United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the Israeli strikes, calling them a blatant violation of Qatar's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

On September 13, Netanyahu said that the leaders of the Palestinian radical Hamas movement in Qatar were deliberately prolonging the conflict and called for their elimination.
