Croatia is ready to provide Hungary and Slovakia with oil not related to Russia through the Adriatic Pipeline. This was announced on September 16 by Prime Minister of Croatia Andrei Plenkovic.

"We have made significant progress in strengthening energy security, including supplies to neighboring countries through YANAF. Today, Croatia can supply more than 12 million tons of oil to Hungary and Slovakia," he posted an excerpt from an interview for CNN on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

He also noted that oil supplies are not at risk, and stressed that Croatia is committed to supporting Europe's energy security.

At the same time, last year, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto rejected the European Commission's proposal on the possibility of replacing lost Russian oil supplies with an alternative route through Croatia, saying it would be too expensive, writes Reuters.

Earlier in the day, Hungarian Minister for European Union Affairs Janos Boca said Hungary would not abandon Russian oil supplies due to the lack of alternatives. He also explained that Budapest is discussing the oil supply situation directly with Washington. The minister expressed the opinion that the United States understands the "special situation" of Hungary and Slovakia, where in some aspects the American partners show more understanding than the European ones.

Prior to that, on September 13, US President Donald Trump announced his readiness to impose sanctions against Russia only after all NATO states abandon purchases of Russian oil. In addition, the American leader called for the introduction of 50-100 percent trade duties against China. Their removal is expected after the end of the Ukrainian crisis.
