For the past 20 years, emotional intelligence has been one of the five most sought-after skills for work, career, and just a happy life. And with the widespread use of artificial intelligence (AI), a person's personal qualities have not only come to the fore, but have also become a competitive advantage in society. Artyom Stupak, a clinical psychologist, ICF coach, and coach at the business school of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, told Izvestia about the signs of low emotional intelligence on September 16.

"The main sign of low emotional intelligence is the inability to recognize one's emotions, feelings and their causes. During the day, we experience a whole range of emotional experiences that overlap each other. And we don't always manage to accurately determine the connection between events and our emotional reactions to them," the expert said.

The specialist called the second sign "getting stuck" in negative experiences and the inability to quickly restore the resource state. He explained that the inability to manage one's emotional reactions, that is, to return to one's resource state, is a symptom of poorly developed emotional intelligence.

The third sign is a lack of self-motivation and a tendency to procrastinate, which makes it difficult to achieve goals.

"Emotions directly affect our ability to set goals and achieve them. And those who can curb their emotional impulses in the process of achieving their desired goals have a high level of motivation management," Stupak said.

The fourth signal of low emotional intelligence is indifference to other people's feelings and lack of empathy. High sensitivity does not mean justifying the behavior of others, but implies understanding the causes of their emotions and actions, the psychologist clarified.

Stupak called the fifth sign the inability to establish communication, reach agreements and work in a team with representatives of different cultures and views. Overt manifestations of xenophobia and fear of intercultural communication also indicate a low level of emotional intelligence, especially if a person openly expresses distrust of people of a different culture, nationality or race.

On June 3, certified life coach, expert in the field of emotional intelligence and self-development Alena Boryesson told how to deal with brain fatigue. According to her, when severe fatigue occurs, it is important to determine at a basic level what is happening inside, to evaluate it at a physiological level from 0 to 10. After that, it's worth taking a break — "let the system reboot."
