- The EU postponed the presentation of the 19th package of sanctions against Russia indefinitely
The European Commission (EC) will not present the next package of anti-Russian sanctions on September 17, as expected, it has been postponed indefinitely. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on September 16, citing a European diplomat.
"The presentation of the 19th package of sanctions is postponed," the publication says.
The EC did not specify the new possible dates for the official presentation of new sanctions. According to the newspaper, the delay is due to the fact that the focus of the European Union (EU) has shifted to putting pressure on Slovakia and Hungary.
On August 29, the head of European diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, called on EU countries to impose secondary sanctions against oil supplies from Russia, which will be similar to restrictions imposed by the United States. On September 12, it became known that the EU was finalizing the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. Callas noted that additional measures will be considered regarding the supply of Russian oil, shadow fleet tankers and banks.
