- The doctor spoke about the effects of stress and malnutrition on the appearance of IBS
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional disorder that occurs due to impaired interaction between the nervous and digestive systems. Kirill Masliev, Candidate of Medical Sciences, member of the State Council Commission on Active and Long Life, Head of the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Rudn University, founder of the Heroes Charitable Foundation, told Izvestia on September 16 about how to cure IBS.
"With pure IBS (uncomplicated by other diseases), tests are likely to show the absence of abnormalities, and this is just an indicator that the patient has IBS, and not, for example, an infectious disease. Irritable bowel syndrome does not involve inflammatory processes (hence the normal white blood cell count) or damage to areas of the body. The values of the microflora in the digestive tract may also be relatively in order," the specialist said.
According to him, stress, eating disorders, lack of sleep and physical overwork are among the main triggers of the disease. An important factor is a violation of the diet, when a person, for example, refuses three meals a day in favor of coffee in the morning and a hearty dinner in the evening.
"In order to reduce the severity of IBS, it is necessary not only to adjust nutrition, but also to normalize sleep, increase or, conversely, reduce physical activity, and improve the psycho—emotional state," concluded Masliev.
On August 12, nutritionist Irina Pisareva told who is dangerous to eat fiber. She noted that with insufficient water intake, excess fiber can cause constipation, and with exacerbations of ulcers, colitis and other gastrointestinal diseases, its amount should be limited so as not to overload the body.
