The main tools of scammers to involve children and teenagers in criminal activities have become closed chats, job offer channels and "recruiting bots" in the Telegram messenger. This was reported on September 14 by TASS with reference to the materials of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
"Telegram is the main recruitment platform for minors. For these purposes, there are secret chats, anonymous groups discussing "earnings", closed channels with vacancies such as drops, kladmen, SIM cards, admins," the agency said in its materials.
It is specified that "recruiting bots" are automated bots with sending out offers for earnings or dating.
Also, the social networks VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, game chats and Discord voice servers are dangerous sites (blocked by the decision of Roskomnadzor in the Russian Federation). Recruitment of minors can also be carried out on WhatsApp (part of Meta, the organization is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) and Signal by offering part-time jobs.
On September 10, Sergey Kuzmenko, head of the Roskachestvo Digital Expertise Center, said that teenagers become easy prey for the organizers of dropper schemes, since their apparent safety and simplicity, multiplied by the natural desire for financial independence for young people, often outweighs critical perception. The expert noted that teenagers are attracted to messengers and social networks with supposedly simple offers of "quick earnings", for example, they are only asked to provide bank card details for transfers.
