- Eight of the 62 aftershocks that occurred in Kamchatka during the day were noticeable
In Kamchatka, 62 repeated seismic aftershocks were recorded over the past day, eight of which were felt in populated areas. This was announced on September 14 in the Main Directorate (GU) of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation in the region.
"During the day, 62 aftershocks of magnitude from 3.5 to 7.4 occurred, of which eight were felt," the agency said in a Telegram channel message.
It is specified that the magnitude of the strongest tremor was 7.4 — its force was felt in several settlements up to 6 points. Also, as the ministry stressed, as a result of the recorded phenomena in the area, a tsunami threat was declared, but the wave did not approach residential areas.
Gennady Krasnikov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, announced on September 13 that scientists had warned in advance about a possible earthquake in Kamchatka and the authorities had managed to take measures to avoid serious consequences from the seismic event. He also clarified that for six months, the fixation of aftershocks in the area is not excluded in the north and south of the peninsula.
