Neurologist gave advice on self-help during a migraine attack
Anna Koptseva, a neurologist at the Vidnovskaya Hospital, told how to help herself with a migraine attack. According to her, both adults and children suffer from migraines. Seizures vary in frequency and intensity, but there are general rules for pain relief.
Doctors distinguish three types of migraines: with aura — when dots appear in front of the eyes 20-60 minutes before the attack, numbness of the limbs and difficulty speaking, without aura — a sharp headache, more often on one side of the head, and chronic — when the pain recurs more than 15 times a month, Radio 1 reported on Friday. September 12th.
Koptseva stressed that pain should not be tolerated: it is better to take the medicine at the very beginning of the attack, but the doctor should prescribe the drug. She also warned that taking medications too often could cause a "headache from medications."
Physical activity during an attack is contraindicated, as it will only increase the pain. It is better to go to a quiet dark room, lie down, apply a cold compress to your head and drink enough water, the specialist added.
In children, migraines can manifest as abdominal pain, irritability, fatigue, and other conditions. Therefore, according to Koptseva, it is important to keep a "headache diary" and show the child to the doctor on time. In the prevention of childhood migraines, she highlighted the observance of sleep patterns, reducing mental and emotional stress and regular physical exercise, writes 360.ru .
