In cosmetology, caffeine is considered an effective component that easily penetrates into the upper layers of the epidermis and affects several processes related to blood circulation, metabolism and fluid balance in tissues. Anastasia Likhorshest, a leading technologist and developer of the Arabia Laboratories cosmetics brand, told Izvestia about this on September 13.

"Caffeinated products are often recommended to reduce bags and dark circles under the eyes," she noted.

First of all, caffeine stimulates microcirculation, that is, it increases the movement of blood in the small capillaries of the skin. Due to this, cells receive more oxygen and nutrients, and metabolic products are eliminated faster. When microcirculation is active, the complexion becomes fresher and brighter, and the tissues recover better after exposure to stressful factors. Improving blood flow also helps to reduce congestion, which is the basis of local edema.

In addition to stimulating blood circulation, caffeine has a mild vasoconstrictive effect. This effect helps to reduce the expansion of capillaries and excessive accumulation of fluid in the intercellular space, which makes edema less pronounced. This is why caffeinated products are often recommended to reduce bags and dark circles under the eyes.

Do not forget about the anti-inflammatory properties of caffeine. It helps to reduce redness, irritation and discomfort, and also has a draining effect, stimulating the elimination of excess fluid. This makes the skin look smoother and firmer.

Dermatocosmetologist Ekaterina Konstantinovskaya told Izvestia on August 29 about why sunscreen is needed not only in the heat, how to read the icons on the packaging and what filters are available.
