NATO's plans to prepare a "defensive military response" after the drone strikes in Poland are a political tool rather than a real threat to security. On September 12, Yegor Dibrov, a political scientist, specialist in political and economic conflicts, and an employee of the Faculty of Political Science at Lomonosov Moscow State University, told Izvestia.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that NATO is preparing a "defensive military response" as part of increased deterrence on the eastern flank after the arrival of drones in Poland. A "political response" from the alliance is also expected.

"The main methods used in the EU and NATO are the political and economic blockade, as well as new packages of sanctions against the illusory threat from the East. The degree of effectiveness of the measures taken will not always be correlated with the inflated military budgets for their implementation. NATO can use Poland's experience and block a country that does not plan to attack its neighbors even in the concept of foreign policy," the expert said.

He also pointed out the risk that NATO's actions would have a destructive effect on Eastern European countries, especially Poland, which is already trying to capitalize on the situation by increasing its military presence and receiving additional budget funds.

In addition, Dibrov added that Britain, France and Germany will play a leading role in coordinating a "defensive military response" aimed at deterring Russia. However, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Romania will take the most active part in this process, which continues the neocolonial policy of these countries towards their allies.

"This situation will once again show that the concept of collective security applies to all NATO members. At the same time, collective responsibility and the consequences of destructive policies are divided between 20% of Western European countries (the initiators) and 80% of the rest of the EU," the political scientist said.

On September 10, the operational command of the branches of the Polish Armed Forces (RFA) reported on the defeat of several drones by the Polish military that violated the country's airspace. Later, the Reuters news agency, citing sources in NATO, said that the alliance did not regard the incident as an attack. In addition, US President Donald Trump did not rule out that the situation with unmanned aerial vehicles in Poland may be due to a mistake.
