The expert revealed the secrets of the perfect combination of metals and stones
Bold experiments with the combination of various stones and metals are popular today, but improper combination can lead to damage to jewelry. Elena Rakutina, Sokolov's product director, told Izvestia on September 14 about the rules that will help preserve the shine and beauty of jewelry.
According to her, the hardness of stones is an important factor that can affect the appearance of jewelry. Even the natural contact of jewelry in a jewelry box or on the body can damage them.
"A diamond is the real king of hardness among all stones, but at the same time the main destroyer for softer brethren. It can easily leave scratches on any other mineral with direct contact. Therefore, it is better to store diamond jewelry separately from other products or in special compartments of the casket," Rakutina said.
Sapphires and rubies, although they are hard minerals, can also damage stones such as topaz, quartz or turquoise. While the emerald, despite its strength, is very vulnerable and afraid of impacts.
The expert noted that special attention should be paid to the storage of porous stones such as turquoise, opal, moonstone, coral and pearls.
"They are best stored in separate pouches or boxes to avoid even the slightest damage. Contact with solid minerals is a real stress for them, which can lead to clouding or loss of natural luster," Rakutina said.
Speaking about metals, the expert emphasized that gold and silver are not the best neighbors in the same box. Silver can oxidize due to copper in the gold alloy, especially if it is a low sample. This can also happen when silver is next to brass, bronze, or copper, which will darken the products.
As for creating fashionable images, the expert added, it is necessary to take into account color harmony. For example, yellow and rose gold perfectly emphasize stones of rich or warm colors. Silver and white gold are best combined with transparent minerals.
Rakutina also suggested that fans of multi—color compositions follow a simple formula: no more than three colors in one image, where one color will be the main color, the second will be supportive, and the third will be a neutral background.
"Repeat the metal combination at least twice — for example, if the bracelet and earrings are a combination of silver and gold, then the ring can be made in the same metal. Choose a single style — minimalism, geometry or ethnic motifs to make your image look complete. And don't forget to support the metal play with the details of the clothes — the belt buckle or the accessories of the bag," she concluded.
On September 3, Irina Shamilova, the creator of the EIRINE jewelry house, a gemologist and chief designer of the brand, told Izvestia the rules for combining gold and silver jewelry. According to her, if you're wearing a massive silver necklace and the jacket is fastened with large gold hardware, they may come into visual conflict. Try to make the metals "overlap". Gold hardware on shoes can become a brilliant accent supporting gold earrings, even if you have a silver watch on your wrist.
