The United States will take retaliatory measures in response to the verdict of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro. This was announced on September 11 by the US National Security Adviser, Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"Political persecution by the recognized violator of human rights [Minister of the Supreme Federal Court] Alexander de Moraes continues, as he and other members of the Supreme Court of Brazil unfairly decided to imprison former President Jair Bolsonaro," he wrote in X (former. Twitter).

Rubio also assured that the United States would respond appropriately to this "witch hunt."

On September 11, the newspaper O Globo reported that Bolsonaro, who led the country from 2019 to 2023, was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison for attempting a coup against the current leader of the country, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva.
