The expert dispelled the myth of special oils for Chinese cars

Contrary to myths, there are no "secret" oils for Chinese electrified cars, since their requirements are based on generally recognized international standards. Roman Sokuev, head of the Sintec Lubricant Technical Expertise Center, told about this on September 11.

The expert explained that such Chinese cars do not need exotic oils, but require strict compliance with regulations. The use of an unsuitable lubricant (especially in hybrids) leads to the risk of premature oil depletion and expensive engine repairs.

For example, hybrid versions of some Geely or Li Auto (Lixiang) models use 0W-20 low-viscosity oils with API SP and ACEA C5 performance categories, which is caused by the engine operating under conditions of frequent starts and stops.

"This is a key feature of hybrids — the operation of the internal combustion engine in a "torn" mode. Due to the constant switching between the electric motor and the gasoline unit, the oil does not have time to warm up to the optimal temperature, which accelerates its oxidation and requires increased thermal stability. Products with improved dispersing properties are recommended here," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quotes Sokuev as saying.

As for electric vehicles, their focus is shifting to the dielectric properties of transmission fluids and efficient cooling, since there is no internal combustion engine, the specialist noted.

Earlier, on August 20, an auto expert said that the engine oil, which is sold for bottling from a barrel, is not inferior in quality to oil from a canister. Nevertheless, buyers of such oil risk facing a lack of guarantees of product authenticity and compliance with storage standards in non-certified services.
