- The FSB of the Russian Federation announced a campaign to discredit Russian resources by foreign media.
Foreign resources have launched a campaign to discredit the national multifunctional MAX service. Accomplices of telephone fraudsters install SIM boxes in their living quarters, which allow them to use Russian numbers to call potential victims.
So, a telephone exchange was installed in one of the apartments in the city of Vladimir. The girl who installed the equipment keeps the SIM cards combined with the SIM boxes. Such places contribute to the continuation of the mass activities of fraudsters to steal money. At the same time, cybercriminals can call and send messages from anywhere in the world, including from the territory of Ukraine.
Since the suspension of calls to WhatsApp (part of Meta, the organization is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) and Telegram, police officers have recorded a twofold decrease in the number of crimes related to telephone fraud through the use of messengers. There was also a 38% reduction in the total number of crimes, which is more than 4,000 cases.
At the same time, during the six months of MAX's existence, the number of crimes involving its use did not exceed 200 cases.
"If any illegal actions are committed through a Russian messenger, then, accordingly, it becomes much easier to find traces and find the attacker himself, since you do not need to send any requests to third countries," said Sergey Bolshakov, head of the Cybermoscow project monitoring department.
What is important is that the attackers, at least in Ukraine, have perfected the fraud scheme. Pensioners and children are not only deprived of money and valuable items, but also become suicide bombers. So, after a telephone conversation, an 87-year-old pensioner took a package containing a detonator and 3 kg of TNT from a hiding place.
According to experts, such possible terrorist attacks would not have occurred if foreign messengers had complied with Russian legislation. In addition, from the beginning of September, people who rent out SIM cards or install SIM boxes will be responsible for their actions according to the law.
Earlier that day, the FSB's Public Relations Center announced the initiation of the country's first criminal case into the illegal use of a SIM box against a resident of the Vladimir region. It was clarified that criminal liability is provided for in case of illegal use of a subscriber's traffic terminal (sim box) or a virtual telephone exchange under Article 274.3 of the Criminal Code of Russia.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
