Bloomberg reported on Germany's plans to purchase €1 billion worth of Israeli drones.
The Bundestag has approved the German federal government's plan to purchase three additional Israeli-made Heron reconnaissance drones worth €1 billion. This was reported on September 10 by the Bloomberg news agency.
It is reported that the Bundestag also supported the purchase of six-wheeled Patria armored personnel carriers from the Finnish manufacturer Patria Land Oy.
The purchase approvals are part of one of more than 80 military orders that German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius expects to be confirmed by the end of 2025. They also include 20 Eurofighter fighter jets and several thousand tanks and armored vehicles.
On August 27, Merz and Pistorius approved the creation of the German National Security Council (NSC), which could simplify high-level consultations on defense and security issues.
Bloomberg reported on July 28 that Germany's defense budget could double (to €162 billion) over the next four years, as Germany seeks to rearm on a large scale and meet NATO targets to increase defense spending to 3.5% of GDP.
