The first tram line without a contact network was opened in Moscow
The first tram line in Russia without a contact network has been opened on Akademika Sakharova Avenue in Moscow, said the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin. Its construction is the largest project to revive the tram infrastructure in recent years in Moscow, the mayor noted in his channel in the MAX.
"Many residents of the capital have been waiting for this," Sobyanin wrote. He stressed that Akademika Sakharova Avenue and Masha Poryvaeva Street are one of the few main streets where urban transport did not run.
The new route No. 90 from Sokolniki to Paveletsky Railway Station connected 20 rail frame stations: four central railway stations and 16 metro and MCD stations. According to the mayor of Moscow, about 300,000 people have received more convenient options for traveling around the city.
"It is important to note that the new line through the center connected different parts of the city," Sobyanin wrote. He stressed that this is the initial stage of the creation of Moscow tram diameters.
About 20 Lion Cub-Moscow trams with autonomous running will enter the route, the mayor said. The movement interval is approximately 5 minutes. They will travel two kilometers along Akademika Sakharova Avenue without connecting to a contact network — energy storage occurs on other sections of the route.
In early September, Sergei Sobyanin launched Russia's first unmanned tram with passengers on route 10 of the Shchukinskaya metro station — Kulakova Street in the northwest of the city. The mayor also said that three more unmanned trams will be launched by the end of the year, and in 2026 there will be 15 of them.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
