- The first cable of the future Blagoveshchensk – Heihe cable car was stretched over Amur
The first cable of the future cable car, which will connect Blagoveshchensk in Russia and Heihe in China, was stretched between the two cities at an altitude of 70 m. On September 10, the press service of the project manager, LLC Agency for the Development of Project Initiatives (ARPI, part of the REGION Group of Companies), announced the start of work on rope tension.
"For the first time in the world, two countries are building a cross-border cable car using the most innovative technologies. According to the technology, during the installation process, five ropes of different diameters and weights must be alternately changed for each cabin, from the thinnest to the thickest, until the thickest ropes weighing 30 tons each are stretched, supporting a cabin for 110 people. After fixing the first rope at a height of 70 m on two supports, more massive ropes running one after the other are connected to it in turn, which will be unwound using winches from one support to another," said Andrey Nadin, General Director of ARPI LLC.
After fixing the first rope on two supports, more massive ropes are attached to it in turn. They will be unwound using winches from one support to another. Two ropes are stretched in parallel for the cabins, which will run on a pendulum principle. The capacity of the cable car will be 6.8 thousand people per day in each direction or 2.5 million people per year in both directions, the ARPI said. The installation of the ropes will be completed in January next year, and the road is scheduled to be launched in spring 2026.
"As a result of the project, the world's first cross-border passenger cable car will be created in the Amur Region, which will create a reliable year-round comfortable passenger service between Blagoveshchensk and Heihe. The total length of the cable car is 976.28 m. The flight duration will be 2.5 minutes," the press release says.
The cable car between Blagoveshchensk and Heihe is being built as part of an intergovernmental agreement between Russia and China signed in September 2015. In July 2019, the project was given a symbolic start.
Earlier, on September 5, Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on Russia's place in the alliance with India and China with the words "a bear is a bear." According to him, the Russian Federation has built very kind and good-neighborly relations with many countries, including China, India, and Indonesia. In addition, the Russian president also mentioned small but rapidly developing countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Also on September 2, it became known that China had introduced a visa-free regime for Russian citizens with a regular passport for up to 30 days. Putin indicated the next day that Russia would reciprocate China's move. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, in turn, pointed to the potential of Russia and China for a twofold increase in tourist traffic. According to him, the tourist flow has reached about 70% of the pre-peak level with more than 230 weekly flights.
