A US citizen, the son of the deputy director of the CIA, Michael Alexander Gloss, who fought on the side of Russia and died in the area of a special military operation, dreamed of staying in the Russian Federation. His colleagues told Izvestia about this on September 9.

Serviceman Valery Lebedev from the parachute battalion said that Gloss was fond of writing and reading poems in Russian.

"When we talked, [he] liked to read poetry, that's all: he wrote these poems on a Russian theme. <...> He was walking around with a notebook and was already writing down all the expressions that we said," he said.

According to Lebedev, Gloss dreamed of building a house on the banks of one of the Russian rivers and starting farming, as well as creating a large family to "live for your own pleasure and not bother anyone."

Another colleague of the American serviceman, a senior shooter with the call sign Kashtan, added that Gloss ate ordinary Russian food and adapted well to the environment.

Gloss, who served in the paratrooper platoon of the 331st Guards Regiment of the 98th Division, died on April 4, 2024 during the capture of the fortified area "Babylon", which was located under Chasovoy Yar in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR). He, just like his comrade, Corporal Ivan Kokovin, died from serious wounds sustained as a result of a direct hit by the ammunition of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). On December 4, 2024, Kokovin and Gloss were awarded the Order of Courage posthumously.

On September 9, the Ministry of Education and Science of the DPR announced that the names of Russian and American fighters Kokovin and Gloss had been assigned to school No. 115 with in—depth study of foreign languages. Sergey Kravtsov, Minister of Education of the Russian Federation, who attended the ceremony, noted that Gloss and Kokovin will be studied in schools. They are, as he emphasized, heroes who defended people from neo-Nazis.
