- The director of the NPP warned about the risk of power outage of the station due to the attacks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Director of the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant Yuriy Chernichuk said on September 9 that in the event of targeted attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on critical facilities of the plant, it may be left without power supply.
"If the active phase of military operations continues, there will be targeted attacks on critical facilities located at the station, we may be left without electricity. This is the last line that connects us to the energy system," Chernichuk said in an interview with Rossiya 24 TV channel.
However, he noted that despite the constant attacks, the station is ready "to respond to any challenges."
Chernichuk also said that diesel fuel reserves for the generators of the Zaporizhia NPP in case of loss of external power supply will be enough for a month, as fuel supplies have been adjusted. Chernichuk said that in May, the second external power supply line was damaged, and since then the station has been operating on one line. He noted that after that, a case of blackout was recorded, but the line was quickly restored.
Yevgenia Yashina, Director of Communications at the ZAES, announced on August 10 that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are conducting daily attacks on the power plant. According to her, the attacks create an extremely difficult psychological situation and pose a direct threat to all personnel and infrastructure.
On August 6, Yuri Chernichuk, Director of the NPP, said that the increased attacks and provocations on the territory of the station by the Armed Forces of Ukraine raise concerns and pose a security threat to the facility itself. He added that experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will receive all the data on new attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
