University graduates often face a problem: how to get a job without experience. Employers are looking for professionals who become professionals only through practice. It turns out to be a vicious circle. However, everything is not so hopeless, and the key to the solution is to rethink the very concept of "experience". This was reported to Izvestia on September 10 by the HR director of the consulting company OOO "Together.ABOUT", practicing psychologist Dmitry Chernyshov.

"The labor market is undergoing significant changes: the experience gained at the previous workplace is often not a guarantee of success in a new workplace, because the corporate culture, team, and specific tasks in each company are unique. Experience is important, but it is far from the only thing an employer values," he said.

Today, an employer has to rely not on ready-made specialists, but on the potential of a person: companies raise an employee "for themselves", forming individual tracks for professional and personal development. Learning becomes an integral part of the workflow through mentoring and internal self-development programs. Therefore, a graduate with no work experience is an ideal candidate for the company.

"When choosing a resume strategy, answer three key questions. First, do you have any work or internship experience with a real employer? Second, are you proud of your academic and practical achievements? Third, are you ready to develop within the company, undergo corporate training and invest in additional education? The answers will help determine the optimal strategy for your case," the psychologist advises.

There are three key resume writing strategies for graduates, and the choice depends on the answers to the initial questions. The first strategy is to focus on human and professional resources. It is ideal if you have had significant internship experience. In this case, it is necessary to present each internship as a full-fledged project or mini-job: describe in detail not only your tasks and specific achievements (for example, "increased the efficiency of the process by 15%"), but also the teamwork and communication skills that you have managed to develop. Built professional relationships and recommendations from your supervisors will be your powerful advantage.

The second strategy is to focus on internal potential. It is created for those who are eager to develop and learn. It is important to focus on strong personal qualities, academic success, courses and internal motivation, as well as readiness for a continuous process of development and learning. A key element of this strategy is the mandatory preparation of a convincing cover letter that reveals your passion for the field, willingness to work hard and quickly learn new skills. An important part of the cover letter should be a description of how you successfully put into practice the knowledge gained through self-study and team learning.

The third, hybrid strategy is the synergy of resources and potential. It is suitable for those who have some experience (for example, study projects or short internships), but which is not exhaustive. Your resume should combine a description of your achievements with an emphasis on your potential and readiness for further intensive training. A cover letter is also desirable in this case, as it helps to combine the past and the future, demonstrating a conscious path of development and career ambitions.

"A resume without experience is a story about a person with capital: knowledge, personal qualities, potential. What he is willing to bring to the company is energy, a fresh perspective, and a willingness to learn. For this, companies that look to the future are happy to invest," Chernyshov concluded.

Oleg Kim, a lawyer for civil and criminal cases at the Moscow Bar Association Grad, told Izvestia on July 21 that in 2025, the indexation of salaries of employees of budgetary professions will amount to 13.2%. He appreciated this prospect and told us who exactly could expect to receive a salary increase.
