Rheinmetall to supply Ukraine with mobile anti-UAV systems
The German company Rheinmetall has signed a contract to supply Ukraine with mobile systems for countering unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This was announced on September 8 by the head of the company Armin Papperger in an interview with ZDF TV channel.
According to him, the contract will be signed this week at the DSEI defense industry exhibition in London. According to this, Kiev will receive new Skyranger systems.
Papperger said that Ukraine will receive the first shipments of weapons this year. He stressed that Rheinmetall's production facilities are capable of producing from 70 to 100 Skyranger towers annually, with the prospect of increasing to 200 units. These systems are not yet part of the Bundeswehr's arsenal, he explained.
"Each of these systems can control an area of 16 square kilometers to ensure the complete absence of drones. This means that all drones will be shot down," Papperger said.
On September 7, Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechaev said that Germany's possible supplies of long-range Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine would mean a "new quality" of Russian-German relations. According to him, only the German military will be able to control the weapons systems, which "will be a completely different approach."
