Scholar and philologist Aza Takho-Godi died at the age of 102.
A classical philologist who preserves the spiritual and creative legacy of the Soviet philosopher Alexei Losev, Honored Professor of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Aza Takho-Godi died on September 8 at the age of 103 after a long illness. This was reported on the website of the Russian PEN Center, an interregional public organization of writers.
Aza Takho-Godi was born on October 26, 1922 in Makhachkala in the family of Alibek Takho-Godi, a politician of the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, who was repressed in 1937 after the family moved to Moscow, and later rehabilitated in 1956. The mother of the future philologist, Nina Takho-Gadi, was also subjected to repression — she served her sentence in camps located on the territory of Mordovia. After her parents' arrest, Aza Takho-Godi and her sister spent some time living with her mother's brother in Vladikavkaz.
After graduating from the V. I. Lenin Moscow State Pedagogical Institute in 1944 (MGPI; now Moscow Pedagogical State University, MPGU), she entered graduate school, where one of her teachers was the Soviet philosopher Alexei Losev, who became not only her scientific mentor, but also, since 1954, a companion in life and a cultivar.
Aza Takho-Godi, recognized as an Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation in 1998, was awarded the silver medal of the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2011, "for her contribution to the development of philosophy"), the Orders of the Russian Orthodox Church: St. Euphrosyne of Moscow (in 2012), Equal-to-the-Apostles Princess Olga I degree (in 2022) and She was awarded the Order of Honor (in 2023), and was also awarded the diploma of the President of the Russian Federation in 2015.
Tahoe-Godi, who taught ancient literature, Latin and Greek at a number of higher educational institutions, has written over 800 scientific publications. She is the author of textbooks, monographs, and books on both philology and philosophy.
