Sobyanin spoke about the completion of the MCD train upgrade program
A large-scale program to upgrade the rolling stock of the Moscow Central Diameters has been completed in the capital. The mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, told about this on his channel in the IACH. According to him, after the end of the program, Moscow has become a megacity with the youngest fleet of commuter trains among European cities. The average age of the rolling stock has now been reduced by five times, from 23 years to 4.5 years.
A large-scale upgrade of trains for the IDC started in 2019, on the eve of the launch of the first two diameters, and was completed in six years. Already in 2020, the MCD-1 and MCD-2 rolling stock were completely replaced, and in September 2025, the MCD-3 and MCD-4 were updated. Since 2014, 398 modern trains have been delivered to the capital's diameters, including 77 trains for the MCD-1, 87 trains for the MCD-2, 122 trains for the MCD-3 and 112 for the MCD-4.
According to the mayor of the capital, during the renovation program, the Moscow Central Diameters received 4,500 modern wagons. "The importance of the Moscow central diameters lies in the fact that they transport the majority of suburban passengers in the country as a whole. This is 1.6 million daily residents of Moscow, the Moscow region and other nearby regions," said Sergei Sobyanin.
