The number of Chinese used cars on sale in Russia has doubled in a year
In August 2025, compared to the same period last year, the number of ads for the sale of used Chinese cars in Russia doubled, while the number of ads for all brand groups increased by 50%. <url> Assessment experts told Izvestia about this on September 9.
The average price of used cars of Chinese brands dropped to 2.1 million rubles. Compared to the previous month, the indicator decreased by 2%, and over the year — by more than 5%. The group of European, Japanese and Korean brands recorded a decrease of 1% in a month, to 2.3 million rubles. Prices for such cars decreased by almost 9% over the year. The average cost of Russian—made cars was 701 thousand rubles, which is 1% more than in July, but only a thousand rubles higher than a year ago.
Among the reasons that continue to influence the decline in prices in the secondary market, analysts cite oversupply and a shift in demand. At the same time, many sellers still overestimate the expected cost of selling their cars, and high loan rates limit the number of potential buyers.
The decrease in the average price covered almost all federal districts. The maximum drop in the average cost in August was noted in the Ulyanovsk region (-4%; 911,000 rubles), St. Petersburg and Leningrad Region (-3.3%; 2.03 million rubles), Irkutsk Region (-3%; 2.06 million rubles). In the Moscow region, the average price decreased by 1.3% to 2.7 million rubles. A noticeable decrease was also recorded in the Volga and Siberian Federal Districts.
However, in a number of regions, an increase in the average cost of a used car was recorded by more than 5%. The Arkhangelsk region became the leader in this indicator, where the price immediately jumped by 17% to 1.3 million rubles. This change is due to the appearance on sale of a larger number of Chinese models under the age of 5 years, as well as a jump in prices for popular crossovers and sedans from Renault and Hyundai, experts explained. This is followed by Yaroslavl (1.27 million rubles) and Kaliningrad (1.98 million rubles) regions, where the average price increased by 7% over the month.
Among the individual models whose prices decreased most noticeably, the leaders were the Kia Rio of the fourth generation (-4.6%; 1.55 million rubles), Chevrolet Cobalt (-4%; 567 thousand rubles) and Geely Emgrand EC7 (-3.7%; 430 thousand rubles). At the same time, Lada 2113 increased in price from 225 million to 234 thousand rubles, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class W221 — from 2.31 million to 2.38 million rubles. In August, only their average cost growth was above 2%.
Earlier, on August 28, it was reported that the leader of the rating of the most popular crossovers in the Russian secondary market for the first seven months of 2025 is the Toyota RAV4, excluding the VAZ Niv in the SUV segment.
