The White House asked the Supreme Court to allow the freezing of foreign aid
The administration of US President Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to allow billions of dollars of foreign aid to be frozen. This was reported on September 8 by The Washington Post (WP).
It is noted that earlier, a panel of the Federal Court of Appeals of Colombia lifted the preliminary injunction of a judge who ordered the White House administration to spend billions of dollars in additional funds for future relief work, ruling that the plaintiffs had no right to file a lawsuit. The Court of Appeal reversed this decision and returned the case to U.S. District Judge Amir H. Ali.
Ali subsequently issued a new preliminary injunction, ruling that the Trump administration had allegedly violated the Appropriations Act of 2024 by delaying foreign aid. According to the publication, the validity period of about $11.5 billion expires at the end of October, but the judge may extend it.
"The Trump administration quickly demanded a review of the decision, and the court of appeals upheld this ruling, despite the division of opinion," the material says.
Earlier, on September 1, WP reported on the expansion of Trump's powers by the US Supreme Court with a number of emergency rulings. The article clarifies that there are currently several high-profile cases under consideration that could significantly change the balance of power between the White House, Congress, and independent agencies.
