It's not uncommon for people to ask each other for headphones to listen to music together or take on important conversations without thinking about auditory hygiene. The doctor noted that changing headphones to already used devices increases the risk of viruses and bacteria getting into the ears, which can lead to diseases and even hearing loss.

In addition to this bad habit, people generally forget about hearing hygiene. The most common mistake a person makes when using headphones is to increase the volume of sound and stay in noisy places for a long time without using protective equipment.

"These circumstances provoke the "fatigue" of the cells of the inner ear responsible for the perception of a sound wave. <...> It can lead to <...>..> hearing loss," Evsikova explained.

Other harmful habits that affect hearing include cleansing the auricle with cotton swabs and smoking.

The doctor recommended following the rules of auditory hygiene.

"It is recommended to control the volume level when listening to music and movies with headphones. <...> Also, you should not use other people's headphones and give your personal headphones to other people for use," the specialist advised.

If you complain of hearing problems, you should consult an ENT specialist and not self-medicate.
