More than 40 thousand people took part in the procession in Moscow
More than 40 thousand people took part in the procession in Moscow. This was announced to RIA Novosti on September 7 by Vitaly Suchkov, head of the Moscow Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations.
"For the first time in many decades, an All-Russian procession led by His Holiness [Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia] took place from the Cathedral of Christ the Savior to the Novodevichy Monastery. According to our calculations, more than 40 thousand took part," he said.
The total length of the route was about 6 km. After the event, a prayer service was held at the walls of the Novodevichy Monastery.
Earlier in the day, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia called on believers to revive the tradition of family participation in religious processions, as they serve as evidence of faith. He recalled that the tradition of Moscow-wide processions dates back more than four centuries.
