Mark Zuckerberg's namesake sued him over account blockages on social media
American lawyer Mark Zuckerberg has filed a lawsuit against his full namesake and founder of Facebook (owned by Meta, whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) due to the fact that his account has been blocked several times, accusing him of "impersonating a celebrity." This was announced on September 5 by the BBC television channel.
"The lawsuit alleges that Meta violated the terms of the contract by unlawfully removing an advertisement worth $11,000," the publication says.
In an interview with the YouTube channel WTHR-TV, the plaintiff shared that over the past eight years his account has been blocked five times and "it's not funny" because it causes material losses. He also stressed that his name is Mark Stephen, and the founder of the social network is Mark Elliott.
Meta stated that it has restored the lawyer's account and is taking steps to prevent a repeat of the mistake.
On March 30, Facebook blocked the account of former Romanian Foreign Minister Adrian Severin for criticizing the cancellation of the presidential election in the country. The former minister recalled that in the United States, the liquidation of accounts for dissent is prohibited.
