Security guarantees should be provided not only to Ukraine, but also to Russia. This was announced on September 5 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov during the Eastern Economic Forum - 2025 (WEF-2025).

"Of course, security guarantees should be provided to both Ukraine and us," Peskov told RIA Novosti.

He noted that one of the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine was the violation of security guarantees for Russia when Ukraine began taking steps to join NATO.

"What was one of the root causes of this conflict? When the foundations of security guarantees for our country began to be violated, when Ukraine began to be dragged into NATO. And when the military infrastructure of NATO began to move towards our borders. And of course, these guarantees should be provided to us and Ukrainians during the settlement process," the spokesman explained.

Earlier in the day, Peskov indicated Russian President Vladimir Putin's readiness for trilateral talks on Ukraine. He noted that careful preparation is necessary before starting such negotiations. The negotiating team of each side must discuss many issues and come to a common opinion so that a settlement is possible.

The jubilee Eastern Economic Forum is taking place on September 3-6 at the Far Eastern Federal University campus. This year, the main theme of the forum is "The Far East: cooperation for peace and prosperity."

In his greeting to the participants, organizers and guests of the X WEF, Putin noted that over the past decade the WEF has rightfully earned a high reputation.
