Russia and China are working hard together to preserve the historical memory of the Second World War. This was stated to Izvestia on September 3 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

"We can say that our two countries [at the parade in China on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory over militaristic Japan and the end of World War II] worthily honored the memory of those ancestors who defended humanity and humanity 80 years ago," Zakharova said.

She stressed that the parades on May 9 in Red Square and on September 3 in Tiananmen Square were the culmination of efforts to perpetuate historical memory and were evidence of the responsible attitude of both countries to their history.

According to Zakharova, the efforts of Russia and China in the international arena are linked to the lessons and mistakes of the past, especially of the twentieth century. She added that the parade in China, despite its scale and protocol, has a deep connection with history, and the process of negotiations between Russia and China has become an important step in preserving the memory of the Second World War.

"Without our position, I assure you, we would not have learned the history of the Second World War, it would have been distorted," Zakharova concluded.

Earlier in the day, the military parade held in Beijing on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II ended. At the end of the celebration, 80,000 balloons and pigeons were released into the sky on Tiananmen Square in the city center.

On the same day, Sergei Naryshkin, Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), recalled the common historical lessons of the Second World War. According to him, the peoples of the Soviet Union and China went through difficult trials for the sake of their independence, and therefore, based on similar experiences, they jointly defend the right to the historical truth about the Great Victory.
