NATO facilities located in Finland will be the first to be hit in the event of a conflict with Russia, as they will turn out to be a legitimate military target. This opinion was expressed on Wednesday, September 3, by the chairman of the Presidium of the all-Russian organization "Officers of Russia", Hero of Russia Sergey Lipovoy.

"As soon as Finland joined NATO, it lost its political, military and economic independence and fulfills the will of the NATO leadership, the will of the European Union," TASS quoted him as saying.

He stressed that for this reason, NATO bases and units will be deployed in Finland, which poses a threat to Russia.

"But this medal also has a downside, because all military installations appearing on the territory of Finland are our legitimate military targets, in the event of a conflict they will be destroyed first," Lipovoy recalled.

He also mentioned that Finland is currently repeating its mistake in the last century, when this country came under the influence of Nazi Germany.

"History has its own cycles, but it doesn't teach you anything. These are the leaders of individual countries, if they had looked at how the same situation ended for them in the last century, I think they would have drawn the right conclusions. And today they are making the same mistakes, not realizing that the reckoning will surely come for hostile attacks against Russia," Lipovoy concluded.

On September 1, the Finnish Ministry of Defense announced that the headquarters of the command of the Northern Land Component of NATO (MCLCC) had been established in the country in the city of Mikkeli. At the moment, the headquarters employs 10 people, but the number of staff is planned to be expanded to 50 employees.

Earlier, on August 26, the Politico newspaper reported that the Polish and Finnish authorities were considering the possibility of restoring marshes on the borders with the Russian Federation in order to protect against the alleged Russian threat. It was noted that the swampy area is difficult for military equipment, so the authorities of European countries plan to water previously drained peat bogs.
