On September 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that the parade in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Victory over Japan and the end of World War II would be excellent, even despite the rain.

"Even if it rains, the Chinese armed forces will hold a solemn event with their usual brilliance," he said.

The Russian leader also stressed the historical partnership between the two countries and the military brotherhood during the Second World War.

"We have always been together, and we remain together now," the president noted.

Earlier in the day, Putin expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for the initiative in the conduct of the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). He noted that Russia sincerely strives to develop mutually beneficial and multifaceted relations with China.

Putin and Xi Jinping began negotiations with the participation of broad-based delegations on September 2.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Russian leader arrived in Beijing, where a trilateral meeting of the heads of the Russian Federation, China and Mongolia was held at the House of People's Assemblies.

Prior to that, on September 1, Putin also addressed a meeting of the heads of the SCO member states. According to him, the association is gradually increasing its influence in resolving international issues. Putin also noted that the average increase in the gross domestic product of the SCO member states last year was more than 5%, and industrial production — 4.6%.
