Boxer Khelif, who failed the gender test, appealed to CAS due to suspension
The 2024 Olympic boxing champion from Algeria, Iman Khelif, who failed the gender test in 2023, has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over the decision to suspend her from the World Boxing Federation. The relevant document was published by the court's press service on September 1.
"Khelif has filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against World Boxing for a decision that prohibits an athlete from participating in upcoming boxing competitions without a preliminary genetic test," the document says.
It is noted that the athlete's appeal, filed on August 5 this year, was rejected by the court.
In addition, the request to the court also requested the CAS to recognize the athlete as a suitable candidate to participate in the World Boxing Championships in the 2025 season without passing appropriate tests.
On August 20, it was reported that Khelif had ended her professional career after a gender scandal.
In August last year, a transgender boxer (the LGBT movement is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) from Algeria, who failed a gender test, won gold at the Olympic Games in Paris in the weight class up to 66 kg. However, later, in November of the same year, it became clear that she was not a biological woman. A chromosome test confirmed the XY karyotype in Helif. It also follows from the hormone test that the athlete has a typical testosterone level for men.
