Pavel Feldman, Candidate of Political Sciences, professor at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations, told Izvestia on September 1 that the idea of deploying a European peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine completely contradicts the Russian approach to conflict resolution.

He commented on the statement by the President of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen that Europe has a "fairly precise plan" for deploying troops in Ukraine as part of security guarantees. In addition, the EU is considering new sources of funding for the Ukrainian army.

"If Ursula von der Leyen really wants peace to be established as soon as possible, then she needs to start direct consultations with Moscow on possible security guarantees for Kiev. The position of the Russian leadership on this issue has been repeatedly voiced publicly, and it remains unchanged: there should be no Western troops on Ukrainian territory," the expert said, noting that Russia had launched a special military operation to prevent Ukraine from becoming a "NATO springboard."

According to Feldman, Brussels stubbornly refuses to admit that Moscow has the initiative on the battlefield and has every reason to demand peace on its own terms. As long as Europe does not abandon the utopian idea of deploying Western contingents in Ukraine, IT will continue, the political scientist concluded.
