The death toll from the earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has increased to 500. This was announced on September 1 by the country's state television and radio company (RTA).
"As a result of the earthquake that occurred last night in the districts of Watapur, Manoghi, Chapa-Dara, Sauki and Nur-Gul province, about 500 Afghans were killed and about a thousand were injured," the publication says.
According to the newspaper, the official number of victims is being clarified, there are still many people under the rubble, and their number is likely to increase.
Earlier that day, it became known that an earthquake of magnitude 6.0 occurred in Afghanistan. According to the US Geological Survey, five aftershocks of magnitude 4.3 to 5.2 took place in the same area of the country after the earthquake.
