Peshkov jokes: Pushkin was reassembled on Moscow stages and Engibarov was remembered
In the last month of the season, Moscow theaters recalled the role of the personality in history. Or rather, those personalities who devoted their lives to caring for the great ones and who were undeservedly forgotten over the years. They also reinterpreted Pushkin's classics and staged a play about the life of the brilliant Leonid Engibarov. The critic Vlad Vasyukhin wrote about the theatrical premieres of August in his traditional review for Izvestia.
"Gorky. Love", Theater of Nations
The Gorky + Festival, which took place in Moscow in the last days of August, delighted theater-goers with strong performances from St. Petersburg, Krasnodar and Voronezh. And the Metropolitan Theater of Nations, whose artistic director Evgeny Mironov is the art director of the festival, presented a specially prepared theater project "Gorky. Love."
The author of "Makar Chudra", "Vassa Zheleznova" and other works where the love theme is manifested through the complex feelings of the characters, argued that without love "it is impossible for a person to live: then his soul is given so that he can love."
And Gorky loved — passionately, tenderly, violently. In different periods, the writer had several life companions. The creators of the play told about the four fatal beauties: playwright Ekaterina Guzema, director Philip Gurevich and actresses Anastasia Lebedeva, Alexandra Revenko, Yulia Khlynina and Anastasia Svetlova. They played, respectively, the midwife Olga Kaminskaya (she was nine years older than Gorky, but the reason for their separation was not the age difference, but the fact that Olga fell asleep when the future classic was reading a novel dedicated to her), the proofreader Ekaterina Volzhina, who was his only legitimate wife and the mother of his son and daughter, a popular actress. the theater of Maria Andreeva and the writer Maria Budberg, whom Gorky called "an iron woman."

"There was another widow, they forgot about her..." — this poetic line can be safely attributed to Mikhail Bulgakov's first wife. Tatiana Nikolaevna Lappa was overshadowed by the figures of his two subsequent muses: Lyubov Belozerskaya and Elena Shilovskaya. The SDI decided to restore justice and tell about the role that Lappa played in the fate of Bulgakov, whose parents were against their relationship, and in general about her long 89—year—old life, little known to anyone.
Bulgakov's biographers claim that without Tasia, as her relatives called her, Mikhail Afanasievich simply would not have survived — she saved him from morphinism, typhus, hunger, and depression. From 1913 to 1924, she was his guardian angel. It was her he called before he died...
Gleb Cherepanov directed Malika Igramova's play, adding fantasy and mysticism to reality. The director decided that there would be a lot of music in the play, since Bulgakov was an avid opera lover.
In the role of the writer is Vadim Dubrovin, whom the general public knows from the comedy series "Bugs". And Taska was played by 26-year-old Alexandra Gladkova, by the way, the daughter of the famous composer Grigory Gladkov.
Yengibarov, Drama and Directing Center
This play is the directorial debut of Alexander Nedomolkin, who is also the author of the play. Therefore, all possible flaws and misunderstandings can be attributed in advance solely to the youth and inexperience of the director of the playwright's dash, but at the same time it is worth thanking him for his attempt. Making a spectacle about Leonid Yengibarov, the "clown with autumn in his heart", whose 90th birthday is celebrated this year, is not an easy task. As Vladimir Vysotsky, who was friends with him, wrote, "he didn't do anything funny — he took our grief upon himself."
It is no less difficult to play a great mime. In this role is 23—year-old Alexander Fokin, who was recognized last season by the jury of one of the theater awards as the "Discovery of the Year" for his work in the play "Courier". Outwardly, he looks like Engibarov, but has not yet reached his depths, and this role is obviously on the rise.

The number in the title of the play is the number of the hospital room, where not so much professional curiosity as the desire to get rich leads the young journalist, designated in the program as Person N (Vladislav Tyron). He wants to solve the secret of the card game. And one of his patients, Herman (TV series star Dmitry Miller) and the Countess (Rosa Khairullina), should help him with this.
Yes, the play was staged by Ivan Titov based on Pushkin's The Queen of Spades. Very remote. The director wrote the text himself. Despite the fact that the story is full of signs of our days, it flows out of time, there is a lot of absurdity and phantasmagoria in it.
"Three poplars on Plushykha", Moscow Show
Performances based on popular film scripts are one of the trends of recent years. It is not surprising that the plot of Alexander Borshchagovsky, well known for the melodrama by Tatiana Lioznova with Tatiana Doronina and Oleg Yefremov (1968), was taken for this theatrical spectacle. The story of the sudden, short and so piercing love of an unhappy married village woman, Nyura, who came to Moscow to sell ham, and Sasha, a lonely taxi driver in the capital, is still loved.
The stage version was staged by 76-year-old Lev Rakhlin, who has such an audience hit as the long-lived play "Kysya". It would be unfair to call "Three Poplars..." the venerable director's new success. They will go to the play to see Daria Moroz and Evgeny Sidikhin playing the main roles, but the casting is clearly unsuccessful: there is no "chemistry" between the actors, you don't believe in their "sunstroke" for a second. The director actively uses cinematography techniques: all the other characters are represented on the screen in the recording, and watching the dialogue of a live artist with his video partner is sometimes funny, but more often boring. When going to the play, try to avoid comparisons with the legendary film. Spoiler: the Pakhmutovsky hit "Tenderness" will be performed in the play!
