The restriction of calls in messengers reduced the level of fraud by 70%
The recently introduced ban on calls via foreign messengers has already brought results: restrictions have reduced the level of fraud by 70%. The special services of Ukraine also have difficulty recruiting saboteurs.
It is extremely difficult to solve crimes committed through foreign messengers due to the fact that their chats are encrypted, and the platforms do not obey Russian law and do not respond to requests from law enforcement officers.
So, in Volgograd, a man was detained who, on the instructions of the SBU staff, moved to Engels, rented a room near a military airfield in order to equip a module for navigation of UAVs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Facebook Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus are owned by Meta Platforms Corporation, which is recognized in the Russian Federation as an extremist organization, and its activities are prohibited in the territory of the Russian Federation.
Ordinary scammers have also settled in foreign messengers. A former boss allegedly wrote to Maria Milerus on Telegram. Then there are calls from pseudo—FSB employees. As a result, she took out a loan for 3 million rubles.
That is why calls in foreign messengers were blocked, and Russians were offered an alternative — the domestic messenger MAX. Users are now switching to it en masse, including due to increased protection against fraud.
On Thursday, August 29, the Interior Ministry warned Russians about a new fraud scheme. Criminals contact teenagers on social networks, games, and chat rooms to deceive them. After that, the attackers resort to pressure and isolation, threatening to arrest the parents. To do this, the scammers transfer communication to Telegram and forbid talking to the family.
All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
