Russian Railways postponed the possibility of using biometrics when boarding a train

Deputy Head of Russian Railways Evgeny Charkin at the exhibition at the International Railway Salon space "PRO//Movement.EXPO told reporters that boarding a train using biometrics will start working later on September 1.

"We need to make sure that everything works accordingly, efficiently, and that no one has any risks associated with the use of this technology. And when everything is tested, all questions will be answered, then we will consider the possibility of implementing and scaling this technology," Charkin shared with TASS journalists.

He also added that Russian Railways is working on this technology jointly with the Ministry of Digital Development and the Federal Security Service (FSB).

Biometrics will be an additional option for boarding a train, while the classic option of boarding with a passport remains.

Previously, the government planned to introduce the possibility of boarding long-distance trains using biometrics from September 1, 2025. In addition, it was indicated that train tickets could be purchased in the same way.
