New air transportation rules will come into force in Russia on September 1, 2025. Artem Kuzmin, Deputy Director for Aviation Market Development at the Tutu travel service, told Izvestia on September 1 about how this will affect travelers and what to do now if you miss your flight.

"Previously, if a person was late for the first round-trip flight, the return flight was canceled. As a result, the passenger could lose money for the entire trip. From September 1, the return flight will continue, even if the person got to the place on another flight or mode of transport," explains Kuzmin.

The Tutu expert emphasizes that now air travelers will have more confidence in the trip. At the same time, the algorithm of actions will change slightly if you are late for your flight. It will depend on the specific scenario.

So, if the passenger simply did not show up (no-show) — did not check in for the flight and did not show up for boarding, and the fare allows a refund, the airline will refund the money for the ticket and fees, but deduct the service fees and clearance fees. The law specifies that refunds, fees for automated booking systems, ticket processing, and excess baggage receipts can be deducted.

"You were late for boarding — you checked in, but you didn't make it to the gate. Urgently look for an airline representative: you can often take the next flight with a surcharge or under new conditions. Such options are more often offered if the ticket is expensive or you are flying business class," the expert said.

When a passenger did not make it to the transfer, but the connection was made in one ticket, and the delay was the fault of the carrier, the airline will reissue the ticket free of charge and, if necessary, provide meals and a hotel. For those who are gawking in the shops and miss the flight, the airline will no longer come to the rescue. But if the tickets were bought separately, the costs will be borne by the passenger. Sometimes the carrier offers bonuses as a compliment, but more often — nothing.

"If the flight was delayed due to the carrier's fault, keep the receipts and get a note about the flight delay. This way you can receive compensation. Passengers who have taken out insurance will also need these documents," Kuzmin recalls.

According to the expert, the airline cannot delay the flight to wait for late passengers. All departures are strictly tied to a specific time, and its shift threatens the carrier with fines.

"Remember: boarding ends 15-30 minutes before departure, online check-in takes 45-90 minutes. If you feel that you are at risk of being late, call the airline right away — the chance of help will be higher," the specialist advises.

On May 4, Elena Prokhorova, head of the Sber Eaptek pharmacy, told Izvestia how many Russians are susceptible to jet lag. When changing time zones, the body does not have time to adapt to the new time, the biological clock gets lost, so symptoms such as malaise, drowsiness or lack of sleep, headaches of various etiologies, and fatigue may appear.
