Laughter is a natural reaction to funny and joyful situations, but sometimes it is inappropriate, for example, if a person starts laughing despite the circumstances. Anastasia Borodina, an Invitro neurologist, told Izvestia about the causes of uncontrolled laughter on August 31.

Such laughter, she says, can be a sign of various neurological and mental disorders.

"Pathological laughter can be suspected if it does not correspond to the situation and mood of a person, does not cause pleasure, can be combined with other symptoms, for example, uncontrollable crying, increases feelings of anxiety and anxiety and does not bring emotional relief to a person, it is difficult to stop it," the expert pointed out.

Involuntary laughter can also be triggered by various chemicals, such as psychotropic drugs and drugs or alcohol consumption, the doctor added.

Involuntary laughter can be a defensive reaction to severe stress, fear, or negative events. In this case, it suppresses emotional overstrain and helps to relax.

"Constantly restraining emotions is harmful, it can lead to a nervous breakdown, burnout, or mental disorders," Borodina stressed.

The doctor also said that seizures of involuntary laughter in children may be the norm, as it is difficult for them to express emotions in words. In some cases, involuntary laughter may occur when overexcited, when sleep and wakefulness are disrupted, and in an unusual environment.

If a child has periodic bouts of uncontrollable laughter, Borodina recommended contacting a pediatric neurologist. They can talk about the likelihood of, for example, epilepsy in a child.

Inadequate laughter in adults, according to the doctor, may occur due to damage or malfunction of the neural pathways responsible for regulating emotional reactions. For example, after traumatic brain injuries, brain tumors, stroke, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, or Tourette's syndrome.

On March 20, endocrinologist, nutritionist at the SM Clinic, PhD Oksana Mikhaleva told Izvestia about products that cause insomnia. So, this is a caffeinated food, which can include chocolate. That's why she recommended eliminating this product from the diet in the evening.
