Pashinyan demanded the resignation of the Catholicos of All Armenians from his post

Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II needs to leave his post. This was announced by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on August 28.

"My position on the Armenian Apostolic Church has not changed and cannot change under any circumstances. Ktich Nersisyan (Garegin II's name in the world. — Ed.) must leave his post," Pashinyan said at a briefing broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Armenian Express agency.

He also declared his readiness to lead the process of removing Garegin II from his post.

Earlier, on July 20, Pashinyan called for preparations to expel the Catholicos of All Armenians from his residence in Etchmiadzin. He accused Karekin II of violating the marriage covenant. According to the Prime Minister of Armenia, after joining the church, a monk priest cannot enter into any other personal relationships.

On June 30, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed concern about attacks on the Armenian Apostolic Church in Armenia. He stressed that Moscow is interested in stopping such actions and in resolving the situation as soon as possible based on full respect for the rights of believers.
