The upcoming meeting between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping is of historical significance. This was announced on August 28 by Chinese Ambassador to Moscow Zhang Hanhui.

"The leaders of China and Russia will once again hold an important meeting with significant historical significance, which will determine the direction of further development of bilateral relations and give a new powerful impetus to deepening cooperation in all areas," he said in an interview with TASS.

According to Hanhui, Russian-Chinese relations are "one of the most stable, mature and most strategically valuable relations between great powers in the modern world." He added that Russia and China are "time—tested friends" who consider each other as priority partners for cooperation in many areas.

The Russian President will pay a four—day visit to China from August 31 to September 3. Putin's visit will be timed to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japanese militarism and the end of World War II.

Yesterday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that relations between Russia and China are currently a priority topic for the Russian side, and therefore the upcoming visit of the Russian leader to China will be unprecedented. He clarified that high-level contacts between the two countries are extremely important.
