The US Department of Homeland Security has banned organizations receiving government funding from providing assistance to illegal migrants. This was reported on August 27 by The Washington Post (WP).

"The US Department of Homeland Security currently prohibits states and volunteer groups receiving public funds from providing assistance to undocumented immigrants," the text says.

It clarifies that organizations subject to the new rules express concern that this will complicate their work with the most vulnerable groups of the population, and some question the constitutionality of the restrictions imposed.

The ban also applies to religious institutions, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, whose traditional activities of providing shelter and basic assistance usually do not depend on religious affiliation, political views or the availability of documents from those in need.

Nevertheless, the new rules oblige all recipients of government funding to comply with a law that prohibits states and local governments from withholding information about immigration status and obstructing the actions of the Department of Homeland Security.

On August 21, the Associated Press (AP) agency, citing the US State Department, reported that the agency plans to check over 55 million foreign citizens who have received American visas for records in their personal files of law enforcement agencies or immigration services. If they are found, the visa holder may be deported from the country.
